Sequoia Budgerigar Society

A Short History of Our Club – Come Join Us!

The Sequoia Budgerigar Society, established to promote the breeding, raising and exhibition of the Budgie, was originally founded by Donald C. Denny, Jr. in 1980 in Fremont California under its original name of Bay City Budgerigar Society.  We have had an affiliation with the American Budgerigar Society and have always exhibited our birds under this affiliation. In 1995 it became the Tri Cities Budgerigar Society based in San Jose, California.

Because there were several budgie clubs in the northern areas of California, when Don Denny moved to Modesto California in 1987, he brought the club to that area.  Budgie fanciers are famous for driving long distances to meet with other breeders, and moving the club did not detract from membership.

When Don again moved South to the Visalia area in 1989, the club was again relocated and became the Sequoia Budgerigar Society, and it has remained with its “home base” in the Central San Joaquin Valley since that time.

Members range from those over on the Central California Coast, to Northern California, Southern California and several other locations in California.

Our primary interest, of course, is in discussing, viewing, raising, showing and sharing our successes and failures with our birds.

We would enjoy having you join us in our fascinating hobby!  Please feel free to contact Don Denny, American Budgerigar Society Panel Judge, for information about our local club or about our national society.  His phone number is (559) 734-5992 and his email is br0kenw1ng@aol.com.
